1. Name?
Kenia Barbosar.

2. Where do you live?
Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

3. Tell us about your Instagram page.  What is your philosophy?
My social media sends a clear message against pollution. My philosophy is to use my profession to contribute to preserving our nature and promoting second-hand clothing.

4. How do you practice sustainability?
Sustainability has been a lifestyle for me since last year—from clothing to materials to create patterns or plant my cactus.

(Below Kenia shows us how to wear a scarf from your closet, many ways.)

5. Why is this important to you?
Since I was little, I always had the vision to send a message to our society. In everything I do, I look for a purpose, and my purpose relates to fashion. Since many people do not have enough money to go shopping, I can help them. Last year I started to post about this on social media, and I have seen the impact that a voice can achieve. The most important thing for me is to continue educating people and helping our planet.

6. Where did you learn to design clothes?
I learned from my mom, who designed my clothes when I was a baby.

“I decided to use a fabric I had in my drawers to create this blouse. Doesn’t it happen that when you sew, you keep everything you have even spare pieces and then you realize you can open a fabric store?”Courtesy of @keniabarbosar.

7. Where are some of your favorite places to thrift shop?
My favorites thrift shop is Tropi Trades. I worked there.

8. Do you have a favorite piece you bought? And, why is it your favorite?
My favorite piece was a pair of pants, which I transformed into a dress. That was my second post on social media. It is my favorite because, thanks to that transformation, we are doing this interview today.

9. Where do you source your inspiration? Do you have a favorite blog or magazine?
Inspiration comes from everything in my room. Whenever I create something I think of the season of the year. Something that I always use as inspiration is the power of freedom when wearing any garment. I am not afraid when it comes to dressing.

I have many blogs I read, my favorite is Boss Babe; it is so inspiring to create and be a boss girl.  For fashion magazines I love Vogue. I see all the videos they post in their social media. I hope one day I have the opportunity to be part of this magazine.

10. What has helped you get through the quarantine?
Fashion has helped me in the worst moments of my life, and this is no exception. I have been able to reach more people every day and to expand what I do around the world.

11. What’s your motto in life?
My family. My motto every day is give the best to my parents who deserve the best, and thanks to them I am the woman I am today.

12. Please give us a tip for zero waste in your wardrobe?  What do you suggest we can start doing?
My advice is stop buying fast fashion. Start buying second-hand clothes and let’s transform old pieces into new. We have a lot of clothes in our wardrobe we haven’t used for years, so donate, reuse, or reduce.

13. Website?
I’m working on my website.
