“I was so excited I literally screamed in a Wingstop parking lot—and didn’t even end up ordering,” says American actress Precious Way. “I was on the verge of tears. It’s such an honor to work opposite Tracy Morgan and Daniel Radcliffe, and to be part of a project with this entire cast and crew.”

Way plays Brina—Reggie’s loving and supportive fiancée—in NBC’s The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins premiering this February 23rd. Produced by Tina Fey, this comedy follows Reggie Dinkins, a former star football player who was disgraced and banned after a gambling scandal. He hires Arthur Tobin, a filmmaker, to produce a documentary to rehabilitate his image.

Known for her roles in Days of Our Lives, The Killing Cove, and You're Not Alone, Way reflects on the evolution of her career in a conversation with PhotoBook.

Is there a moment on set with Tracy or Daniel that changed how you think about your craft?

There isn’t one standout moment as every moment has been a masterclass. Watching them in their element is inspiring, and I admire how fully and authentically they commit to the work.

Looking back at your past roles, do you see a common thread in the characters you’re drawn to, or does Brina mark a departure from that pattern?

Every character and project has offered something entirely different, and that’s what excites me most. I love the process of building new characters and seeing them brought to life on screen.

Brina is loving and supportive, but she also sees the documentary as a way to advance her own stardom. How did you balance those two sides of her in your performance?

Brina is deeply supportive and loving, and a big part of that comes from the fact that Reggie supports her dreams in the same way. Because her intentions are genuine, she doesn’t see love and ambition as opposing forces.

What’s something about your acting journey that people don’t see from the outside?

The no’s. All the unseen auditions it takes to get to one yes.

Working with Tina Fey as an executive producer is iconic—what did you learn from being in her creative orbit?

Honestly, it’s iconic. It’s such an honor to be in her creative orbit. I’m still in awe of her and incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

You not only star in The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, but you also sing the theme song. How did that opportunity come about?

So cool, right? I was invited into the studio to record a few bits, and later found out it was going to be the theme song. I’ve always been a singer, music is another huge passion of mine, so getting to bring that side of myself into this project felt really special. I definitely screamed. It was such a surreal, full-circle moment.

What did your role in The Killing Cove teach you about yourself as an actress that you carried into The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins?

Funny enough, I was actually in the middle of filming The Killing Cove when I got the audition for Brina. That experience really taught me to trust my instincts, and I carried that with me into the show.

With the series premiering this month, what excites you most about audiences finally meeting Brina—and meeting you?

I want audiences to laugh and really enjoy themselves. There is truly nothing better than that.

What excites you most about the next chapter of your career?

Comedy has been an amazing experience, and I’m excited to grow across genres and take on more complex, challenging roles.
