Makeup Trends: 2024

Spring is known as the season of renewal and starting fresh, so why not reinvent yourself and awaken your creative juices with the help of spring 2024’s hottest makeup trends? Makeup is the perfect way to play with changing up your look, because it’s an easy way to make a bold statement, or to make a subtle change that’s just enough to make someone look twice.

1. Dolled Up
Glass? No, make it porcelain. A porcelain doll, to be specific. After Pat McGrath worked her makeup magic on the Maison Margiela Spring 2024 Couture runway, TikTok blew up with creators trying to recreate the glass skin look, with a glow that almost made it look liquid. Marc Jacobs also had dolls on the mood board for his Spring 2024 collection, but of the paper variety, and with a 60s flare– featuring long doll-like lashes and powdery smooth skin. Regardless of how much you commit to this look, it’s sure to make your normal makeup a bit more playful.

2. Color It In
Eyeshadow isn’t the only way to add some color to your eyes. Instead, try out a bold graphic liner or a mascara in your favorite color. This is the perfect trend for when you don’t have a lot of time to get ready, but want to make a bold statement. If you only have time to put on one thing, why not make it a quick swipe of mascara? Pairing a bold shade with an otherwise paired-back face will add a bit of an effortless coolness to your look.

3. Metallic Glam
Whether you’re more silver or gold, metallic glam welcomes all. Add a little bit of shine to your inner corner or do a full sweep across the eyes, either way your shimmer will be perfectly complemented by the spring sunshine. Sometimes a necklace and earrings just aren’t enough– think of this as an extension of your jewelry! Not only does a metallic sheen add a bit of color to your look, but it also creates some dimension and texture.

4. Flutter Abound
Instead of a false lash, try adding a feather to your eye look. Whether you’re channeling a black swan or a white dove, this trend is perfectly flirty, fun, and feminine. A feather adds an otherworldly touch of avant-garde and whimsy to an otherwise traditional makeup look, and who doesn’t want to feel like they’re living in a daydream?

5. Are You Red-y?
The classics are classics for a reason. Whether you’re a red lip devotee or haven’t picked up your favorite shade in a while, this season is your chance to make a statement with a bold red lip. If you want to try something even bolder, try a red graphic liner instead. For those who aren’t ready for either, perhaps testing the red nail theory with some polish will be the perfect gateway into a pop of red for you.

6. Skin Is In
If matte makeup isn’t your thing, then this season’s need for glowy, dewy skin is perfect for you. Skincare will be your best friend for this trend, because the perfect makeup look starts with a perfect base. It’s your skin but better, so instead of grabbing a full coverage foundation, try tapping some concealer on your face after applying moisturizer and SPF– think little area rugs instead of a full carpet!
