A Perfect Day In Florence, Italy In The Times Of A Pandemic

Florence is such a mesmerizing city full of adventures and outdoor places to enjoy. Despite all the museums being closed, Florence itself is the best museum. Italy’s main goal is to keep the look of the city authentic and keep its architectural treasures in a good shape.

Rent an electric scooter at the tourist point: ride through streets full of magnificent Renaissance palaces, residential houses, hotels and churches, ornamented with frescoes on the walls and ceilings, columns, and domes.

Stop by Piazza della Santissima Annunziata and feel the energy of kindness, mercy, and desire of sharing that Florence was nourished with and known for. Here you can find the very first orphanage house in Europe, as well as the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata containing the miraculous fresco of the Annunciazione.

For Italians, any flat surface counts as a seat, no matter it’s a monument La Colonna dell ‘Abbondanza or the parapet of the bridge that goes along the Arno river. People here are always in a rush and the easiest way to have a lunch is to take-away food and observe the beauty of the city.

Instead of going to a museum, it is possible to visit local shops and workshops. Inside Gucci Garden at Piazza Signoria, you can find a limited collection of handbags and other accessories designed specifically for this location.

You can also lie on the fresh green grass with a glimpse of tiny daisies and have a wonderful picnic at San Niccolò. The days in Florence are mostly sunny and warm enough to even get a tan. Many young people gather after their studies or work to play sports, sing, and dance.

The best option for lunch is a sandwich from Osteria All'antico Vinaio, the most delicious sandwich location in the city. The sandwich might be on authentic schiacciata bread with truffles, salami, mortadella and other ingredients. Usually, It can take up to 2 hours to stand in a  line stretched all the way to Uffizi Gallery, but nowadays, with fewer tourists, the queues are much smaller and consist entirely of local residents. 

Another alternative is to indulge your sweet tooth at the Malaleuca bakery with its a bistrot, where you can find the best cinnamon rolls covered in chocolate and sugar glaze, millionaire shortcake, napolitana with chocolate, and many other desserts to go with a cup of coffee, as well as tasty sweet potato fries and avocado bagels.

In front of San Niccolò, climb through the fountains and waterfalls up to Piazzale Michelangelo for the most breathtaking view on the river, mountains, and the whole city. Take a seat at the stairs and meet the most romantic sunset, while having a wine or a Breezer from a small kiosk.
