There are some great places to visit to see fall colors in New England. The six states offer many activities during your vacation as you experience the breathtaking fall foliage.
Mount Washington Cog Railway
This unique railway is stationed in Mount Washington, New Hampshire. The train ride takes you through the beautiful trees of Mount Washington and it is a perfect way to see the fall foliage up close. The Mount Washington Cog Railway has been around for 150 years and continues to be a main attraction. You can buy tickets all throughout the fall season. It takes passengers to the summit of the highest peak in New England, and the view is one you’ll never forget!
The Berkshires
The Berkshire Mountains, located in Massachusetts, is one of the prettiest places in the US during the fall. This season is definitely the best time to visit the Berkshires. Nature is bursting with bright autumn colors, it’s a surreal experience. There’s also a lot of outdoor adventure in the Berkshires. For those who love being right in the middle of nature, lots of hiking trails are available to the public. Visitors can also go kayaking and zip lining. One of the best vantage points here is Mount Greylock, Massachusetts tallest mountain. On a clear day, you are able to see five states just from this one point. The Berkshires are the perfect place to escape to a natural oasis.
Sunday River Resort
Located in Newry Maine, Sunday River Resort is most known for its skiing trails during winter. It is just as beautiful, if not more, during the autumn season. The resort has many activities, including hiking, zip lining, horseback riding, food festivals, and more to admire the mountain's beautiful view during the fall. The resort truly has an activity for everyone, and it is the perfect place for a family vacation during the fall.
Bar Harbor, Maine
Bar Harbor, Maine is a beautiful town in Maine along Frenchman Bay filled with many activities. You can enjoy nature by walking along the river or hiking on one of the many trails here. The town also plans lots of community activities that visitors can be a part of during their stay. The Acadia Night Sky Festival is one of their many events. It takes place at the beginning of every fall season. Renowned speakers share their knowledge of the stars and space during the day, and at night you get to gaze up at the stars. The downtown area also offers scenic dining, shopping, various museums and shows.
Woodstock, Vermont
Filled with nature and national parks, Woodstock is a beautiful retreat for the fall. The streets of this town are filled with unique boutiques, art galleries, and country stores. Woodstock is a small village town in Vermont and it has its own special charm to it. They have specialty foods and drinks such as butterbeer lattes and pumpkin pancakes. During the fall season, apple picking is everyone’s favorite activity in Woodstock. There are many apple picking orchards and over 100 types of apples to choose from!
