A Travel Guide To New Orleans: Vintage Shopping, Art Galleries, & More

This past Thanksgiving, I went to the Big Easy—New Orleans. It was great to do something different. There is live music playing on the streets at various times of the day, you can walk around the French Quarter with a drink in hand, you can visit unusual shops with a wide assortment of merchandise, and you can have amazing food. The Crescent City has suffered plagues, wars, imperial regime changes, and devastating floods and hurricanes such as Katrina. Yet, you always wake up with a smile on your face and look toward you next adventure. And, as Sonny and Cher would sing, The Beat Goes On.

The architecture is like no other city in the United States. The Creole style, while often thought of as a “French Colonial” style, in fact is an architectural style developed in New Orleans.

Bars & Restaurants

  1. The famed Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop was built between 1722 and 1732 by Nicolas Touze.
941 Bourbon St, New Orleans, LA 70116

  2. Erin Rose, dive bar where everyone grabs a drink late night from politicians to musicians to workers, play your favorite song on the juke box and their late night food is pretty tasty.
811 Conti Street, New Orleans LA 70112

  3. Pat O’Brien’s, grab the local drink The Hurricane and taste many flavors combined for a refreshing drink. Next door, listened to some music at Preservation Hall. Flashback back in time with the jazz era, the venue has an intimate acoustic sound, and vintage suits and ties.
718 St Peter St, New Orleans, LA 70116

  4. Acme New Orleans Oyster House
I actually cannot eat Oysters, I am allergic to shellfish, but the veggie burger I had out of this world and everyone I went with, went 2x on the trip to get their oysters.
724 Iberville St, New Orleans, LA 70130

  5. Cafe du Monde
Everyone has to go to Cafe du Monde at least once and get a cafe au lait with beignets.
It actually became my morning ritual, take a morning walk and grab a cafe au lait. The quarter is so peaceful and love looking at the architecture. It’s like where am I? They clean the streets early each morning, so it’s beautiful at that time. Grab a coffee, no lines in the morning and walk up to the Mississippi River.
800 Decatur St, New Orleans, LA 70116

  6. Bayona
Beautiful entrance with flowers and charming courtyard, this restaurant has a nice atmosphere and food. I love the red fish with bok choy.
430 Dauphine St, New Orleans, LA 70112

  7. Cuñada
    Authentic Mexican food.
