Khaite Spring 2026: Sculpting the Modern Uniform
For Spring 2026, Khaite translated its cinematic vision of American luxury into an immersive pop-up installation at Selfridges, transforming the department store’s second-floor Atrium into a dramatic landscape inspired by the mythology of the American West. Open from March 2 through May 28, the installation presents the collection within a carefully constructed environment that reflects the season’s central themes of movement, transformation, and atmospheric tension.
Conceived as an immersive setting, the space draws on a distinctly Lynchian visual language. Matte black surfaces evoke the texture of an asphalt highway, while sharp neon illumination cuts through the darkness, creating an environment that feels both stark and cinematic. The interplay of light and shadow produces a sensorial atmosphere that extends the narrative of the collection beyond the garments themselves. In doing so, the installation invites visitors into the moody visuals that define Khaite’s aesthetic, recalling the enigmatic cinematic tone associated with filmmaker David Lynch.
Material contrasts and cinematic lighting heighten the interplay between exposure and intimacy, echoing the brand’s ongoing exploration of opposing design forces. Within this environment, ready-to-wear, handbags, and footwear are displayed against a dark, graphic backdrop that emphasizes the precision of silhouette and the richness of materiality. The setting reinforces the label’s evolving interpretation of American luxury while highlighting the balance of strength and softness that has become central to Khaite’s design language.
The Spring/Summer 2026 collection revisits American sportswear traditions, reshaping them through a lens of architectural clarity and modern restraint. Silhouettes are sharpened, softened, and reconfigured to test the boundaries of proportion while maintaining functionality and ease. Updated denim, sculptural tailoring, precise outerwear, and hand-finished knitwear form a modern uniform, grounded in craftsmanship and subtle detail. Through these pieces, the collection explores the tension between structure and fluidity, creating garments that feel both deliberate and effortless.
Founded in New York in 2016 by creative director Catherine Holstein, Khaite has built its identity around a philosophy of contrast: masculine and feminine, strength and softness, structure and ease. The brand’s collections are distinguished by exceptional materials, refined construction, and a sensual yet understated aesthetic. This approach has positioned the label as a defining voice in contemporary womenswear, celebrated for its ability to merge classic American sportswear codes with a modern sense of luxury and restraint.
Holstein’s work is often recognized for its "laissez-faire luxuriousness”, a sensibility that combines polish with a relaxed confidence and has become a hallmark of the brand’s identity. The Selfridges pop-up continues this vision, translating the atmosphere of the Spring 2026 collection into a physical environment that allows visitors to experience the brand beyond the garments themselves. By merging fashion, architecture, and cinematic storytelling, the installation offers an immersive perspective on Khaite’s evolving narrative of American style.
