Amber Rose, a media personality, model, artist, and mother, distinguishes herself through her iconic look and by fiercely living by her own words, advocating for empowerment expressed through projects dating back to 2015, with her book “How to Be a Bad Bitch” to the “Amber Rose SlutWalk”, re-inventing what it means to be a woman perceived by the media–as a powerful emblem of self-expression, inspiring others to do the same.

How would you describe yourself, and how is that different from how you think the public perceives you?
I think people feel like I’m a very extroverted party girl but I’m actually pretty reserved and a bit introverted.

What were your inspirations growing up? Did you envision yourself where you are today?
My inspirations were Slash from GNR & Mariah Carey. I definitely knew one day I wanted to live in Hollywood although I had never been to Los Angeles before. I even told all my friends at a young age that I was going to live there. I just didn’t know how. But somehow I made my way.

Were you interested in fashion growing up? How has your style evolved and shifted as you have grown?
I was never the type to follow trends but I always had my own sense of fashion as a young girl. Now I have more access to things but I just do what feels good to me.

What is the biggest thing you’ve learned about romantic or platonic relationships throughout your life and career?
Once you see a red flag, run.

In 2015, you wrote your book, “How to Be a Bad Bitch.” How have you changed since then, and tell us about how you remain a bad bitch today?
People may assume the book is superficial but it’s actually a self-help book. To be the best version of you. It’s not about fitting into society norms; it’s about being comfortable in your own body.

How has motherhood shaped your perspective on life?
Funny enough, I’m not as liberal as I used to be. I want to protect my children from the harsh realities of this world but at the same time give them the knowledge to navigate it.

What keeps you grounded?
Coming from humble beginnings keeps me grounded. I always put myself back in my old shoes and never forget where I came from. I also surround myself with positive people who don’t “yes” to me all day. I always ask the people around me never to sugarcoat anything.

What project do you look back at with the most pride and joy?
I can say that my SlutWalk is something that I look back on proudly. I was happy to be able to help thousands of people through counseling, scholarships, and just overall community. The event brought a lot of awareness to consent, rape culture and sexual violence.

Tell us about what inspired your advocacy for empowerment.
I was getting destroyed on the internet for “sleeping” with men who I never dated and sometimes never met. I randomly came across a video documenting the original SlutWalk in Toronto. I was inspired and decided to use my platform and created “The Amber Rose SlutWalk.“

What is something that you’ve been into lately?
I’ve been playing Teezo Touchdown on repeat. He’s just my favorite artist right now.

What is the best advice for young women?
It’s cool to have a man with money, but it’s way better when you have your own.

Are there any projects you want to work on that fans can look forward to seeing?
I have an interesting podcast releasing soon where I talk about any and everything from science, religion, mortality, and whether aliens are ever going to procreate with humans. My YouTube channel is releasing around the same time. There you can find me cooking, being a mom/entrepreneur, and just being unapologetically me.
