WANT! Music Mavenista

Want.10.jpg

Normally, this is the time of year that kicks off the season of music festivals, but, alas, this will not be the summer for such gatherings. With that, we will find new and perhaps virtual ways to fill this void. As a self-proclaimed music maven, my quarantine self-care requires a beat, a tune, a bop, or sometimes an entire playlist. I dream of a new world where dance parties exist again, but I’d be satisfied with dancing on my own (cue Robyn here). Recently, during one of my music escapades, I got an inspiration: about how much music influences style. I love the crossover. DJ’s turned designers and designers turned DJ’s. Musicians curating their creativity for collabs and other fashion offerings bring new life to wardrobe aspirations. With fashion and music both being a direct line to my happiness, I sought out a few great finds from some of the hottest music makers and iconic pop stars in the clothing biz. Rock on!

GETA CLOGS ($80)

In February when Erykah Badu announced the launch of her Badu World Market featuring curated fashion offerings from Muva herself, I flipped for this chance to own a piece of her shoppable style.  These Geta Clogs are screaming summer chic, inspired by traditional Japanese wooden sandals, and created using a special technique that allows for the absence of nails or glue. They are also described as having potential health benefits that include foot strengthening and the avoidance of foot disorders. Not to mention they come with a dose of Baduism.

Victoria Beckham’s iconic style is undeniable from her Spice Girl beginnings. It’s nothing short of brilliant that she created a fashion empire delving into the design world and creating a platform to deliver her now obtainable style.  This handwritten scribble motif belted midi skirt is an artistic play on a covetable fashion-forward find, and it’s also everything I ever wanted to do to an all-white skirt.

I have never experienced a Virgil Abloh DJ set that didn’t hold me hostage on the dance floor. This is why it’s no surprise that he is one of the most sought-after sound selectors spinning around the world. His genius doesn’t stop there. Abloh delivers collections for his brand, OFF-WHITE, while executing his role as the Men’s Artistic Director for Louis Vuitton. This coral red flap shoulder bag features a square body with printed logo front and shoulder strap with the signature binder clip. You had me at coral!

There are literally not enough words in any language to describe the infinite affection and total fandom that I feel for Prince Rogers Nelson. It’s a no brainer that this T-shirt featuring the album cover image for Parade, by Prince and The Revolution, would make my editor’s picks. This is the type of summer tee that I would wear repeatedly just like how I played every  Prince record growing up, on repeat! Insert 100 purple heart emoji‘s here.

There are literally days when I find myself in a predicament of style and fierceness, and in said moments I often will channel Lady Gaga. It is her fearlessness in her approach to self-expression, whether it be dressing up in all of her Avant-garde glory or stripping everything back to the bare minimum topped with a plush pink chapeau. Gaga’s Haus Laboratories features this delicious cruelty-free vegan liquid-to-powder shimmer eyeshadow in a weightless, smudge-proof formula that can be layered or blended with creaseless pigment power. Yes, please!  I love this emerald hue mixed with multi-color pearl, which is perfect for an online date or to give your eyes life above the mask. Also, who doesn’t want a glam attack, hello?
