THEN & NOW: Linda Rondstadt: The Sound of My Voice

A new series added to PhotoBook is called THEN & NOW.  This feature will include two articles relating to a past artist along with a current artist.  THEN features Linda Ronstadt, the singing sensation from the 70’s and 80’s, with her biographical documentary, The Sound Of My Voice.  In the 70’s, she had 5 multi platinum albums from pop music, and she then applied her instincts to other music paths.  Among them, close to her Mexican heritage is the traditional Mexican canciones and albums performed with the great Nelson Riddle.

This article recounts some of my personal favorite songs and videos you can watch.  There are many good singers, but, I believe, there are a few who have the range of high to low and can sign any song with power and turn it into a classic.  What I liked about Linda is that she is gutsy and follows her music passion while pursuing different genres of songs.

Linda, who has Parkinson's disease, can no longer sing.  Let’s trace back on memory lane of those memorable songs.

“Blue Bayou” is a classic.

“You’re No Good”, which launched Linda’s career.

“I Knew You When” which was featured in the early 80’s. This song came to a close to her pop career at it’s height and she pursued other music ventures, opera, mariachi and more.

“La Charreada,” from Canciones de Padre album, is one of my favorite songs.  I love the traditional Mariachi music, with Mexican folk songs and ballads. Linda grew up singing with her family as she recounts on this album.

“Long Long Time” was a breakout hit, after she left the Stone Poneys to pursue a solo career.
