Laurence & Chico, NYFW, Spring 2020

Laurence and Chico’s latest collection, “Love & Label” is, simply put, hard to ignore. This is
no surprise considering their past shows, all of which have been full of personality and
volume. Everything in this show was just a little bit extra as well, from the models’
vivacious attitudes to the 80s style oversized jewelry to the awe-inspiring statement hats.
As soon as the upbeat music blasted through the speakers and the first few models took the
catwalk by storm, I was captivated. This high energy show was jam packed with trends
reminiscent of the 70s, the 80s, the 90s, and even had a few glamorous takes on styles from
the 40s. The current trends that the show spoke to are statement hats, “superhero” capes,
and bold animal prints. Throughout the show, I couldn’t help but notice the influences from
previous decades, like the gorgeous 70s inspired shiny yellow jumpsuit and matching
headpiece, or the 80s animal print cape, or the 90s Carrie Bradshaw-inspired Empire State
Building printed blazers and skirts. I was also intrigued by the 20s reference with cloche
hats and the 30s style gingham in muted colors. Overall, this presentation showcased an
amazing mix of trends and influences, such as 80s oversized bags and also mini bags that
are currently all the rage. I was fascinated by the ideas behind every look and am still
amazed at how seamlessly each of these diverse pieces worked together in this collection.
