Based in Austin, Texas is Music Manager: Tim Regan for Nine Mile Records
My name is Tim Regan.
2. Where are you from?
I am from Memphis, TN.
3. Where are you based?
I am based in Austin, TX.
My profession is Manager, Agent, Label, Musician.
5. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I run Nine Mile Records and Touring with my business partner Rick Pierik. We are a 360 music company based in Austin TX focusing on band management, live touring, brand image, marketing and album releases. I also play in a handful of bands (Spiral Stairs, Snowglobe, Oh No Oh My, Antenna Shoes, Texas Never Whispers) and make and record music whenever possible (Juanita Stein, Amy Lavere, Sparklehorse).
6. I see you wear many hats in the music industry. Which is your favorite and why (musician, sound engineer, music manager, etc)?
It depends on the day. I really like to mix it up.
7. How did you get into managing artists?
I started working with some incredible artists on the booking side that needed some focused attention to help grow their careers. There is an incredible amount of good music out there today. You really have to create something unique and powerful to cut through the clutter. You need to create something great! Time is best spent with the artist focusing on pushing the limits of their craft instead of navigating a non-intuitive field.
9. What about an artist makes you bring them aboard?
Being monumentally moved by their art.
10. What are some challenges you face as a music manager?
My #1 challenge is managing expectations. It takes a lot of time and patience to build a career. You want to be able to find your audience and really connect with them. That takes time and a real concerted effort. You need to be able to create a world for the art to live in and invite people into that world. Not an easy thing to do.
11. What is your motto in life?
Keep moving forward.
